Fall is almost upon us, and that means it’s time. For us adults? Time to slip slowly into sweater weather and cozy up with a dark, malty Michigan craft brew or a good glass of vino. But for our little ones? It’s time for hayrides and cider and devouring caramel apples the size of their heads! Fall equals the simple (and oh-so-sweet!) joys of Pure Michigan family fun, and we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite ways to enjoy autumn’s finest here in West Michigan with your little ones in tow:
Robinette’s Apple Haus & Winery
At Robinette’s Apple Haus & Winery, you and yours will be part of a West Michigan fall family tradition that’s been around for over 100 years! Here, your kiddos can start out with a 6.5-acre corn maze or a signature horse-drawn hayride through the orchards. After, treat them to warm apple cider, donuts, and giant caramel apples, then let them burn off the sugar buzz on Robinette’s massive 30 ft. x 60 ft. air-filled jumping pillow! When you’re ready to wrap up the day, stroll the orchards as a family for some u-pick apples so you can take home a few more treats to savor later. Don’t forget – with this year being the 50th anniversary of “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” your little ones can enjoy a custom Peanuts-themed corn maze experience! And, unlike many other orchards and u-pick farms, pricing at Robinette’s is per activity with no general admission, so you can customize your family’s experience to fit your own style of fall fun!
From u-pick apple orchards and pumpkin patches to the Cornucopia Farm Market, your littles will love scooping up some take-home treats (and will have even more fun hand-picking them!) at Klackle’s. During the week, they can hop aboard a wagon ride through the orchards and pick a 1/4 peck of apples, test out the sand pile and playground, wind their way through the corn maze and farm animal petting zoo, and cap it all off with a pick-your-own-pumpkin experience. On the weekends, there’s even more to explore, with a giant straw maze, inflatables, pony rides, barrel train rides, and even Pumpkin Putt-Putt! Through September, your kids can even clip their own sunflowers to bring back home for just $1/stem! Be sure to check out the full list of weekday activities and weekend activities to see all the fun in store!
Post Family Farm
Just a hop, skip, and a jump over to Hudsonville will transport you and your little ones to a whole new world of fall fun at Post Family Farm. Fall Festival Saturdays bring everything from hayrides to the u-pick pumpkin patch to friendly farm animals, kids’ crafts, corn mazes, and even face painting – all for just $8/person (littles under 2 get in free)! Best of all, you can top it all off with lunch from a local food truck to round out the day.
Frederik Meijer Gardens
FMG is more than just an autumn color-lover’s dream for adults who love gazing at gardens and sculptures. It’s also surprisingly kid-friendly and fun, especially in the fall. On October 8, swing by for Fall Family Day and your kiddos will enjoy everything from an “I-Spy” fall color hunt to crown-making, tunes, and storytelling. Then, pop back again a week later on October 15 & 16, when your little ones can stack up against Giant Pumpkins weighing hundreds of pounds, all on display at Michigan’s Farm Garden!
