Hot air balloon launches to balloon artists, live music to magic shows, helicopter rides to henna tattoos: the Grand Rapids Balloon Festival is start-to-finish fun for the entire family! Read on for five reasons you simply can’t miss this year’s celebration, and get ready for one of the top festivals in Grand Rapids to take your family’s summer fun to all-new heights, July 19-21, 2018!
Ways to experience the beauty of hot air balloons throughout the 2018 Grand Rapids Balloon Festival are many (and they’re magical)! From the Picnic In The Park: Balloon Walk & Night Glow during Thursday’s kick-off at Ah-Nab-Awen Park to Balloon Fly-ins, Balloon Walks, Balloon Launches, and Balloon Night Glows throughout the festivities at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday, chances to see these colorful beauties light up and launch are all around.
Picture this: playing carnival games for prizes or petting furry friends at the Critter Barn. Jumping sky high on inflatables and enjoying face painting. Seeing live magic shows, a real life firetruck, and balloon art built before your eyes. Then, picture this: your kids’ minds blown and summers made. It’s all here at the 2018 Grand Rapids Balloon Festival, and the family fun festivities are spread across all three days of celebration, making for an entire weekend of epic togetherness.
The Grand Rapids Balloon Festival fun isn’t just for the kids – it’s for the whole family! Don’t miss the chance to check out live music on the main stage by George Moss (Friday night) and The Lasting Hope (Saturday night), or even get a birds-eye view of the balloons on a helicopter ride high above the festivities. But do check out the full schedule of events to know before you go!
No Pure Michigan summer festival would be complete without the chance to savor a little local flavor. So, while the kids bounce on inflatables and watch the balloon launches, make a beeline for some of our favorite festival vendors! Snag classic carnival food from Ibison Concessions & Szakacs Concessions (elephant ears and funnel cakes, anyone?) or sample the slow-cooked, finger-licking good flavors of A&E BBQ. Sip on a summertime smoothie from Maui Wowi, or cool off with a sweet, frozen treat from Wagner’s Good Dips. But, whatever you do, come hungry and sample from different food and drink vendors each day of the festivities!
The only thing more epic than seeing hot air balloons light up and launch overhead is looking back on the memories you’ll make during the Grand Rapids Balloon Festival (and cherish forever). Get a custom henna tattoo, swing by The Printmobile for screenprinted souvenirs, and head to MiPhotoBooth for a keepsake strip of snapshots you’ll want taped to your refrigerator forever!
